Humans In Geelong Expo: Back in person for 2021

The 4th in-person Humans in Geelong Expo 2021 is officially set for Sunday 5th December at The Geelong Racecourse from 10-3pm. This is a free community event with something for everyone. The aim is to inspire, connect and strengthen the community while having a whole lot of fun!

Humans in Geelong Founder and President, Jacqui Bennett, said Humans in Geelong tell the positive stories of locals who are making a difference, one way or another.

“The aim of the Humans in Geelong Expo is to showcase these groups and individuals. It is a way of inspiring, connecting and strengthening our community while having a whole lot of fun!” she said.

There are 12 colourful live performances including the Sweethearts high school girls’ soul band and The Mik Maks, who put ‘Rock’ into kids’ music. Be uplifted by 12 guest speakers including Nasir Sobhani ‘The Streets Barber’ and Craig Morley bird enthusiast.

Be inspired by 30 exhibitors, everything from The Piano Bar to the Belmont Toy Library. There will be a dozen exhibiting local artists including works by @breatheablueocean.

Mrs Bennett said this event and its gathering of inspirational speakers is coming at an important time where the community needs to reconnect coming out of covid-lockdowns.

“You just have to look at the shops, restaurants and smaller events, people want to get out and live again. We need to get out and have fun. With music, dancing, performances, inspirational speakers; an event like this is a way of counteracting loneliness and anxiety”, she said.

“There is a need to promote positive emotional climates, the feel-good vibes and ‘kindness pandemics’. Hence, we’ve also created the Kids Kindness Competition in collaboration with VALiD’s Peer Action Group”.

Fun for the kids includes Jumping Castles, a mini train and the Roaming Reptiles. Henna,

Face Painting, Craft for Kids, Wooden Tic Tac Toe making with St Leonards Men’s Shed, TJ’s Face Painting – Ana and Olaf from Frozen with giant bubbles and glitter tattoos, The Angel Abrabanel living statue by D. Gordon, Geelong Crusaders, skater Yavisht and an SES information trailer.

Read a story with the Story Dogs, listen to a talk by the Chook Whisperer, Elaine Janes and meet her famous chooks. There’ll be roving Magic by Dazzling Dan and Laughter Yoga Sessions.There will be food and drink trucks.

Kids enter the Kindness Art Competition to win one of three $100 vouchers. This competition is run in collaboration with VALiD’s Peer Action Group.

“There is something for everyone. We always used to say ‘and everyone is welcome’ but the Victorian Government Covid Rules stipulate that everyone attending events must be double vaccinated”, Bennett said.
